l would like to work toward creating a working group, (teacher, middle school students and professionals) resulting in an IOS App which provides an IPhone operator an app with the ability to identify, catalog, store both image and text - in essence, a database. Once developed, I suggest it be offered for sale with the proceeds going to support Port Townsend School Education.
The IOS App prototype I have developed carries an initial database of 100 wildflowers of the Olympic National Park and its surrounding forests. I have created the datasets and images to support this. The app allows one to identify what flower they are looking at, enter citing and location information, and to enter new flowers when found. I tend to forget the names of wildflowers, from year to year, so selfishly, I want this app to assist me while I'm on the trail. I believe this app has ""legs"" and can be adapted into many other application areas.
I would like the focus to be on Port Townsend middle school as a starting point. I think it essential to have an equal balance of girls and boys working in team. Many schools throughout the country are now teaching programming in third grade. Some countries (ie China) have established mandatory programming curriculum starting in first grade.
